Gradisca Cold Case

In\Visible Cities 2023, from September 7th to 10th 2023 @Gradisca d'Isonzo (GO) What happened to Professor Marko Švab? "Gradisca Cold Case" is an investigation surrounding a mysteriously vanished figure in Gradisca in 1954, a professor with utopian ideas and a nomadic life. It's a genuine cold case, an unsolved mystery from the past that participants in the performance can solve by exploring the city and deciding for themselves where to direct the investigation. Through their Telegram profile, they will receive instructions and clues about the possible fate of the missing professor, along with a captivating narrative about the history of the town and the characters who inhabited it – from Maria Bergamas, the mother of the Unknown Soldier, to the Jewish intellectual Elia Morpurgo, to the gothic writer Carlo H. De Medici. It leads to a conclusion that projects us into the present, into today's Gradisca, with its layered past and its unwritten future. "Gradisca Cold Case" is a performance that comes to life through LaiKA, a performative, transmedia, and immersive format that utilizes an automated dialogue system (a chatbot) capable of sharing diverse multimedia content directly with the individual viewer via their smartphone. LaiKA places the visitor at the center of a story with multiple possible developments. It presents the user with choices to make: these choices shape each person's experience itinerary and the narrative development of the story. Festival Innsechi 2023, 23 September 2023 and 24th September 2023 @Vimodrone SPORE VAGANTI 2023, 30th June 2023@Reggio Emilia In\Visible Cities 2022, from 3rd September to 4th September 2022 @Gorizia RIFUGI 2021, from 30th July to 31st July 2021 @Reggio Emilia VIMERCATE RAGAZZI FESTIVAL 2021, 10th July 2021 @Vimercate (MB) NUOVE LATITUDINI 2020, 10th April 2020 @Varese The audience is welcomed by a mysterious character: it's Dedalo, the creator of the labyrinth we call reality, the one we're accustomed to seeing, the one that keeps us at ease, the one we've chosen to believe in to the point where we can no longer distinguish it from the truth. Daedalus presents a challenge: to go beyond the gaze. He proposes a game to the spectators: to enter the depths of the labyrinth, into uncharted folds of the world, beyond what we're used to looking at, and there, on their own, find a way out, another possible way to be happy. Inside that place where everything is possible, it will be up to each individual player to decide where to focus their gaze, what to believe in, what to entrust their life to. Yes, because life itself is at stake... In the labyrinth, they won't be alone. A monster has been trapped there and roams in search of happiness to devour, in search of a place in the world. Faced with the risk of being devoured or trapped forever, the players must be prepared for anything, even killing. iDEDALO is a transmedia performance that combines digital and real tools, theater, and exploration of spaces, doing and experiencing. The performance guides individual spectators along traced and geolocated routes that allow them to embark on a journey of rediscovery of the territory. The itinerary will start from a single starting point, a kind of "entrance" to the labyrinth (a square, a courtyard, a closed space capable of accommodating the audience, etc.), but it won't be the same for all spectators. Along the way, spectators will be required to make individual ethical, aesthetic, and narrative choices: each decision will open a direction in space, a different path, both for the moving body and for the narrative story. The narrative tree structure allows for up to 17 possible endings, which, of course, correspond to 17 different destinations along the path. from 2nd June to 4th June 2021 @Scandiano (RE) The initiative offers participants the opportunity to choose from three different paths, each with a unique role: partisan, courier, or common citizen as a historical witness. The starting point is in front of the municipal offices at Piazza della Libertà 6, where an information point will be set up to provide participants with all the necessary details about the game. Organizers will be present during the three days of the event in front of the entrances to the Culture, Sports, Twinning, and Youth offices inside Casa Spallanzani. Once the journey begins, participants will travel through time and space, reliving the key events of the partisan struggle in Scandiano, ultimately reaching the fateful day of liberation on April 25. They will experience it firsthand, guided by a narrating voice throughout the journey and listening to original historical testimonies from some of the historical figures of those days. Participants can repeat the experience by choosing another path, discovering different events and gaining a different perspective on historical events. Each virtual and real journey lasts for an hour, allowing participants to experience all three perspectives within a single day. Scandiano, at the time, was one of the main towns in the Reggio Emilia area and witnessed many moments of violence and reprisals, involving partisan resistance fighters, Italian fascists, German occupying forces, and local residents. During the tour of Scandiano's historical sites, the Telegram application will enable participants to interact with audio messages, providing directions for exploring the town's historic areas. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to listen to interviews, witness accounts, stories from relatives of those involved in the historical events, and insights from historical experts, all the result of months of work by the MaMiMo theater center.
